Pioneer SVM-1000
December 17, 2009
Pioneer has long been known as the industry standard producer of top quality DJ gear, they have long dominated the market with thier range of CDJs, in a similar way to the reign of Techniques in the days of vinyl. It has been the case for some time that Pioneer’s products are unmatched in terms of thier quality, durability and functionality.
It now appears that Pionner are adopting this same approach to the emerging DVJ market with the release of the SVM-1000, an all in one unit which aims to combine the functions of both VJ-ing and DJ-ing. The challenge in this new peice of tech is the need to juggle both audio and video, to a high standard, which enables clubbers to have a more sensory expereince and to be engulfed in sight and sound. This control of both audio and video is something which would traditionally be thought to require 2 crossfaders, as is the case with some previous DVJ units from other manufacturers, Pioneer on the other hand are living up to their name by doing away with this in favour of a singular crossfader. This single fader controls both audio and video and also bosts assingnable curves and fader-start effects.
Probably one of the best features of the unit is the 11 inch LCD display screen which is touch sensitive and enables the user to control all effects, monitor channels, utilize the digital cross fader and the manipulate set-up. There is also a USB outlet for connecting an external keyboard, although there is already an on-display keyboard, and an SD card reader, which can both be seen as Pioneer looking towards future possibilities of other external media.
In addition, the SVM-1000 has a whole load of effects which help to aid the DVJ’s creativity when perfomring a set, there are around 25 effects in total and these come in the form of AV Beat effects, AV Touch effects and Text effects.
AV Beat Effects include: Delay, Echo, Pan, Trans, Filter, Flanger, Phaser, Reverb, Robot, Chorus, Roll and Rev Roll.
AV Touch Effects: Ripple, Lens, Spot, Radiation, Cube, Block, Kaleido, Twist, Zoom, Drop, Blur and Distortion.
Text Effects: Random, Zoom, Block, Rotation, Crush and Slide.
The only drawback that we can see for DVJs thinking of investing in the SVM-1000 is the wapping great big price tag, with the unit currently retailing at £5,699.00! However if you are an accomplished DVJ the sheer quality and functionality of the product may outweigh that rather large price tag.
Anyway check out the SVM-1000 in action being tested by DJ Mag and used by Sander Kleinenberg in an audio/visual super-performance!
